A LinkedIn link gives a recruiter a place to learn more. It helps when the profile is current and matches your CV. It hurts when the link is messy, broken, or leads to an unfinished page.
1. Should you add it
Resume.co's advice is yes, include it, but get the profile ready first: optimise it, add examples of your work, and clean up the URL. If your profile is out of date or has details that differ from your CV, fix that before you share the link. That check is our own suggestion, and it keeps your story consistent.
2. Clean up the address
The default LinkedIn address often ends in a long string of letters and numbers. The University of Oregon's career center suggests editing your public profile and URL and personalising the link to a version of your name. Resume.co explains the same steps on desktop and mobile. A short, name-based address is easier to read on paper and in a PDF.
3. Where to put it
Put it with your other contact details, next to the professional email address you use. Oregon also suggests adding the link to your email signature. Resume.co says you can paste the URL or hyperlink it. If you send a PDF, make it a clickable link. You can also write it as plain text, so it still works if printed. Our guide on what to put in a CV shows how the contact block fits at the top.
4. Check it before you send
- Click the link in your final PDF and make sure it opens your profile.
- Open it while logged out, or in a private window, to see what a visitor sees.
- Compare job titles and dates with your CV so they match.
- Check the spelling of the address, since one typo breaks it.
Our format and PDF checklist covers the rest of the file checks.

What if my profile and CV differ?
Update the profile or the CV so the facts match before you send either one.
